The county was established in 1826 and named after Charles Carroll of Carrollton, the last surviving signer of the Declaration of Independence. Other incorporated cities include Bowdon, Mount Zion, Roopville, Whitesburg, Temple, and Villa Rica, each contributing to the county’s unique character. Historically, Carroll County was formed from Creek Indian lands following the Treaty of Indian Springs in 1825. Today, the county’s economy is driven by manufacturing, education, and healthcare, with major employers including Southwire, Tanner Health System, and the University of West Georgia.
